Dear friends, today I want to talk to you about an important topic. You know, in life we often encounter difficult people and situations. A simple principle has helped me a lot during these times – it is not my responsibility what others did to me, but how I responded to it.
Do you know what this means? No one can make us sin unless we do it ourselves. We often blame others or circumstances – “That person did this to me, so I got angry” or “This happened, so I reacted this way.” But in reality, our reactions are our own responsibility.
The Bible tells us, “You are not accountable to God for the actions of others. You are only responsible for your own reactions.”
Let me give you a personal example. When I was a teenager, I often argued with my friend. I felt that he was being unreasonable with me. I did not openly disobey, but in my heart I was very upset.
But I learned two things from the Bible. First, it is my duty to respect others – it is not an option. Second, I am not responsible for the behavior of others, but I am responsible for how I respond.
This lesson has become very important in my life. Because in our lives there will always be people or situations that we find unfair or annoying. But ultimately, it is God’s responsibility to fix these. Our responsibility is to respond in faith and in obedience to God’s Word.
This does not mean that these things do not affect us. But by God’s grace we can respond with love and humility.
So friends, take responsibility for your own reactions. Remember, we can only love the unloved, forgive the unforgivable, when we rely on the Spirit and grace of Christ.
Apply this lesson in your life. When someone mistreats you, ask yourself – how can I respond in a way that pleases God? Remember, you cannot control others, but you can control your own reactions. That is your freedom, that is your responsibility.
